Top in Business Administration in Germany - CHE publishes its Research Ranking
The University of Erlangen-Nürnberg is one of the leading research universities in Germany in the field of Business Administration according to the 2008 Research Ranking conducted by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE). In terms of acquisition of third-party funding, number of publications, as well as the number of doctoral degrees awarded, the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg is among the top three universities in Germany.
A university is considered to excel in research if it scores within the highest group in at least four of the eight categories used in the evaluation. None of the 69 universities were ranked within the top group in all eight categories. In seven of the eight categories, the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg was joined only by the University of Mannheim and the WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management, Vallendar in the top group. This outstanding result puts the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg clearly ahead of other universities in Bavaria, such as the LMU Munich and the TU München, each of which scored top in only five of the eight categories.
The Center for Higher Education Development (CHE) evaluated a total of 69 Germany universities for the Research Ranking comparing, for example, the number of doctoral degrees awarded, publications and the amount of third-party funding acquired for 16 subject areas in the arts, business and economics, social sciences, natural sciences and engineering.
Graduates in Business Administration from Nuremberg Favored by Company Recruiters
In 2008, the School of Business and Economics also proved the popularity with human resource managers of its graduates in Business Studies. The degree program offered by the School of Business and Economics at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg was ranked tenth out of 100 universities in the German-speaking world who offer such programs. This result was based on a survey of more than 5,000 representatives from recruitment and human resources at leading German companies. Those surveyed were asked to evaluate the quality of degree courses at various universities and universities of applied sciences in the German-speaking world. The latest ‘Uni-Ranking’ was carried out at the beginning of 2008 by the magazines “WirtschaftsWoche“ (Issue 23/2008) and “Junge Karriere“ and the newspaper “Handelsblatt“ in cooperation with the employer branding company, Universum Communications.
For many students the decisive factor in choosing to study at the School of Business and Economics in Nuremberg is the international and practical orientation in research, teaching and learning. The Bachelor in International Business Studies and the Master in International Business combine an international focus with a broad interdisciplinary approach. The Bachelor in Socio-Economics with focus on International Studies also provides an opportunity to study in an international context.
As part of the Bachelor in International Business Studies, students are required to spend some time studying abroad. Students on other programs can also benefit from a wide range of opportunities to develop their intercultural competence at one of the over 100 partner institutions.
As the key academic partner in the region, the School is closely connected to business and industry both as an institution and in providing experts. Cooperation also contributes to the improvement of the conditions of research and learning. With financial support from the four major insurance groups based in North Bavaria (HUK-COBURG Versicherungsgruppe, NÜRNBERGER Versicherungsgruppe, KarstadtQuelle Versicherungen, as well as uniVersa-Versicherungen) a subsidized Chair in Insurance Marketing has been established. Companies, such as GfK, TeamBank and MÜLLER MEDIEN support the modernization of teaching and learning facilities by sponsoring lecture halls.
At the heart of teaching and learning are practical activities, such as business plan seminars, case studies and talks by experts from industry, as well as project seminars, excursions, management simulation games and academic studies of companies. For the best students, an extra dose of practical experience can be gained through the sponsorship program. Representatives from companies working both nationally and internationally sponsor selected students for a year, in order to give them an insight into a variety of areas of work and to enable them to make important career contacts.
